Satanael is a former member of Grigori and one of their Cadres prior to his betrayal. He took his students from the Satanael Class to form the Abyss Team.

Appearance

Satanael is a tall man dressed in the usual fallen angel battlesuit as others, described as having brown hair, silver eyes, and masculine facial features.

Personality

Satanael is shown to be a calm individual as he stood in front of his former colleague, Barakiel without the fear of being assaulted, which remained despite students from the latter's class arriving on the scene.

Much like Azazel, Satanael has fanatic interest in Sacred Gears though unlike Azazel, he is more interested in evolving Sacred Gears to artificially stimulate the birth of more Longinus which are powerful enough to slay gods regardless of the consequences that such actions would bring such as chaos and disorder, as Satanael had resorted to betraying Grigori and his fellow Cadres despite having been comrades for centuries due to not being able to freely pursue this goal while under Azazel's leadership who is inclined to pacifism and whom himself is against Satanael's goal which he considered extremely dangerous.

Due to his obessesion to birth new Longinus, Satanael is willing to help anyone who can contribute to his goals including potential enemies, having formed the Abyss Team which consist of dangerous Sacred Gear users among his Nephilim students. He even gave Koga a device to activate an incomplete Balance Breaker after he volunteered to be experimented on, and did not mind Koga using his Balance Breaker against the Wizards of Oz whom Satanael had allied with as Koga could also contribute to Satanael's ultimate goal of Longinus creation with his Four Fiend Sacred Gear in doing so. Satanael even offered Tobio, one of Barakiel's students and an enemy to join him in exchange for helping Tobio to master his Longinus Canis Lykaon as well as agreeing to help Momiji Nakiri control her Longinus Telos Karma at Ouryuu's request.

History

At some point, Satanael betrayed Grigori and later formed the Abyss Team mostly composed of his students from Nephilim who wield ferocious Sacred Gears.

Plot

Volume 2

Satanael is first shown in Volume 2, where he is confronted by Barakiel for his action of betraying the Grigori, which Satanael reveals to be his interest in Sacred Gears. As Barakiel prepares to fight against him, Satanael snaps his fingers and a strange mist suddenly transports Tobio, Natsume, Sae and Shigune to their location. Satanael introduces himself to them and explains the origin of Canis Lykaon. Tobio acknowledges his interest in Sacred Gears but indicates his resolve for things to end safely, to which Satanael points out that Canis Lycaon was releasing an ominous aura despite Tobio's words. As Tobio starts to get anxious, Suzaku appears - much to Satanael's delight - and warns him to dissuade from influencing Tobio with strange ideas. After a brief discussion, Satanael proceeds to teleport away from the area.

Satanael is later shown meeting up with the other Wizards of Oz at their base after Augusta's defeat, where they discuss about the possibility of using the Three Demonic Beasts once again. One of the witches asks Satanael about the demonic sword Arondight, to which Satanael replies that it's for the purpose of clashing with Canis Lycaon and Galatine. Satanael then mentions the objective of finding the embodiment of infinity, the Dragon God Ophis, and making use of its power. Walburga then asks about the name of their organization, which Satanael names as Chaos Brigade.

Powers and Abilities

Master Inventor: In his personal interest and pursuit to stimulate the birth of more Longinus Class Sacred Gears, Satanael has gained an immense knowledge and understanding about Sacred Gears from his years as a Cadre of Grigori particularly regarding the research of Sacred Gears' limitless potential for evolution into new Longinus even more in depth than Azazel himself. Satanael helped the Wizards of Oz and Utsusemi Agency in creating the Utsusemi artifical Independent Avatar Sacred Gear, by experimenting on Hyousuke Koga and his Sacred Gear Blitz, he developed a gauntlet that allows Koga to activate an incomplete Balance Breaker for Blitz and even distribute excess power to simulate the awakening of other Four Fiend Sacred Gears. Ouryuu also sought Satanael's help instead of Azazel for helping Momiji to fully control her Longinus Telos Karma.

Light-Based Weapons: Despite not being shown, as a fallen angel, Satanael has all the common light abilities afforded to his kind.

Equipment

Arondight: One of the legendary Holy Swords which is a sister blade to Excalibur and Galatine, and was cursed by Lancelot's madness due to his failure to prevent Camelot's downfall into becoming a Demon Sword . It takes the form of a longsword.
